An Open Letter To My Best Friend (On Her Birthday)

Alexa,

Happy birthday! It’s so hard to believe that today you turn twenty. This has been a long time coming. I know that it’s scary to step into this new phase of life (I’m scared too) but I’m so thankful that I have you to go through it with.

We’ve been through so much in the last seven years (seven!!) and I know that there’s so much more for us in the future.

I am so thankful for the times that we’ve been inseparable and the times that we’ve grown apart, because in the end, both taught us that we need each other in our lives. I don’t know what I would do without you, if I’m honest. We’ve come so far from those shy girls in seventh grade. (And you’ve stuck by me through all of my questionable hair choices, so thanks for that).

You’re one of the best people I know to just sit down and talk to for hours over coffee, or dinner, or shopping. You’re one of the best to adventure with too—even if our adventure is just going to a new part of town that we’ve never been to before or a new concert we never thought we’d go see. You’re the most down to earth person I know. And I’m so thankful for that.

In your twenties, there are a lot of new opportunities that you will have. I hope that you find each and every one of them and embrace them with arms wide open. I hope that whatever your heart desires, it’ll find. I hope that you find happiness in the mundane. I hope that you find adventures everywhere you look, and that you can travel to the places that you want to see (and that I can come along sometimes)! I hope that you’re able to go where you want to go and be who you want to be.

I’m so excited that we get to go into our twenties together, and that even through everything, our friendship is stronger than ever. I love you, girl! Thanks for being my best friend for the last seven years. Here’s to many more to come!

Shi xx
